Ken Smith is a frequent
host of Direct Shopping Network; better known as "Smitty" to his mates here in
the US. Though he claims to be retired, this traveling Opal warrior has logged
over a million miles in travel between Lightning Ridge, Australia and Direct
Shopping Network, here in the US. Smitty is a regular host on Direct Shopping
Network; he flies from his home in Port Stephens, on the east coast of Australia
to Southern California every month or so to bring us the best in Australian
Opals.

Smitty received his formal education in Sydney and is a long-standing member of
the Opal Association of Australia and the Jewelers Association of Australia. He
has been in the Opal business for over thirty years and has excavated millions
of dollars worth of Opals from his own mines. Smitty has been involved in every
aspect, from cutting, polishing to direct sales and brokering. Opals have become
a passion for Smitty, which is unmistakably clear when you meet him in person or
welcome him into your home as a host of Direct Shopping Network. Smitty is a
wealth of knowledge and a well-respected name in Australia.
We are fortunate to have Smitty as part of the DSN team; he has eliminated the
middleman and brings you rubbed and cut opals in all size parcels, specimens and
of course, exquisite collector pieces. During the 1990s prior to his “so-called
retirement” Smitty was one of the largest suppliers of Opals to the United
States. Now as Direct Shopping Network’s Opal Guru, Smitty personally oversees
